LEVI'S Middy Loose Boot Jeans - Wandering Spirit Clean - The Salty BabePants

About Us.

Born in Newport. Sun-kissed in Kailua

Jackie Hopkins, Founder

The Store Newport Didn't Have

I didn't open The Salty Babe because I saw a gap in the market. I opened it because Newport had nothing that looked like me.

I spent twelve years in the surf industry, traveling the world, selling product for other people's brands, absorbing how different cultures wore their lives. I came home with a head full of ideas and a closet that didn't exist yet in Rhode Island. So I built it.

January 2017. Four hundred square feet on Thames Street. The worst possible month to open a retail store in New England, under a name, Balance on Thames, that confused everyone, including me. But within two months, every piece of swimwear sold out. The market spoke. I listened.

We moved. We grew. We renamed. And then one afternoon, we made a tee shirt with "The Salty Babe" on the front and "The Ocean Made Me Salty" on the back. It wasn't a marketing decision. It was a confession. The ocean had shaped me: made me curious, worldly, free, and rooted all at once. That phrase became our North Star, the way a good brand name should. It named everything we already were.

In 2023, our family followed the same pull our customers feel every summer, toward Hawaii, toward warmth, toward something true. We found our space in Kailua. Two flagships. Two very different coasts. One identity.

You're not chasing the coastal life.

You've always been living it.

– Jackie, The Salty Babe Founder

From Thames Street to Kailua Bay.

Newport gave us our roots. Kailua gave us our soul.

The ocean made us salty — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

The Salty Babe Woman

She's not a beach girl.She's a coastal woman.

There's a difference. A beach girl goes to the ocean on weekends. A coastal woman has built her whole life around the water — the way she moves, what she wears, where she travels, how she comes home. The ocean isn't an escape for her. It's her identity. She's 18 to 65, but age has nothing to do with it. It's a mindset. She's curious and adventurous and family-first. She's been around enough to know what she loves and confident enough to wear it. She doesn't follow trends — she follows the tide.If it's not easy, comfortable, and lived in, it's not the Salty Babe.

We built this brand for her. We built it for us.

Turns out they're the same person.

Après Sea Ranch

A Second Chapter

I built The Salty Babe for the woman I was.
I built Après Sea Ranch for the woman I'm becoming.

She's been to the ocean and the mountains. She knows who she is. She's done chasing trends — she's collecting pieces that last. Fewer things. Better ones. Clothes that hold the memory of the places she's been.

Après Sea Ranch is a feminine coastal heritage collection for the woman who has earned her quiet.
